How to Create a Pattern in Illustrator

This will help you to make a pattern in Illustrator without having to duplicate each individual shape by hand. First, pick the shape you want your pattern to contain. I chose this pink oval:

Next, make sure you have the shape selected and then go to Effect – Transform. Adjust the transform options until you get the kind of pattern you like that you’ll want to duplicate. This is what I came up with:

Once you’ve done this, you can either go back to Effect – Transform and keep adjusting until you finish your pattern. Or, you can manually duplicate this into a pattern. Here is the final result:
